Physical environment

The work in this theme has three main aims. Firstly, to make best use of existing spaces for children and young people to play outdoors and take part in sport, and where possible, to develop new play and sports areas. Secondly, to make the parks, gardens and public areas more attractive to be in, and to ‘green' the neighbourhood. Finally, to improve the appearance of the neighbourhood, meaning less concrete and more looked after.

Economic development

Economic development

Church Street Neighbourhood Management is working with various stakeholders to improve, develop and promote Church Street Market. We are working to increase the commercial offering to local residents and at the same time, to attract new visitors and establish Church Street Market as a popular London destination.

Crime and nuisance

We work closely with the police, the City Council, housing landlords and local people to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in the neighbourhood. Our aim is to ensure that levels of nuisance are minimised to acceptable levels, so that people who live and work in the area can go about their daily business without fear or disruption.

Community cohesion

Community cohesion

Church Street Neighbourhood Management works with residents to promote an inclusive community and develop proactive community leaders. This is in order to build up a strong sense of belonging and community spirit. As well as major events, our aim is to focus on local, resident-lead activities. To this end, we work to keep residents abreast of important matters in Church Street, so as to maximise participation and a sense of ownership. Overall, we aim to enhance the lives of people living in Church Street through strong ties and partnership work.

Health

We are working in partnership with the Primary Care Trust to improve the health and wellbeing of Church Street residents — ensuring they are able to experience a good quality of life and access to excellent health services. Our aim is that residents in the Church Street ward are as healthy as residents in wealthier areas of the borough.

Church Street Neighbourhood Management is working with a variety of organisations which deliver services and activities to children and young people.
